Blood Cleanup
Blood exposures are one of the more common biohazards encountered. Certain pathogens can live outside the body in dried and liquid blood for hours, days and weeks (i.e., Hepatitis B and C viruses, Ebola, and HIV). Using incorrect blood cleaning techniques can result in dangerous pathogen exposures (direct contact and inhalation) and create Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health environments (IDLH). ABS experts will use the appropriate personal protective equipment, zoning, containment, biohazard recovery, decontamination and disposal protocols, as prescribed by OSHA, EPA, ABRA, IICRC, NIDS, FL DOH, US DOT, and HAZWOPER to ensure safe and successful blood cleanup.

Homicide Cleanup
The numbers in Jacksonville aren’t pretty – 2019 has become the most violent year on record for homicides in the city. The violent, unexpected death of a family member, friend, coworker or employee is one of the most traumatic experiences a person can face. A rapid response to remediate the biohazard is critical, as a delay may cause additional property damage, elevate risk for exposure to dangerous pathogens and increase the complexity of the clean, resulting in higher costs to complete the operation. Our Certified Biorecovery and Decontamination teams will respond promptly to homicide cleanup requests.

Meth Cleanup
Clandestine Meth labs and the use of methamphetamine have become prevalent across the United States. Meth has become relatively inexpensive to produce and buy, easy to find, and meth use has a high addiction rate – 37%. Meth lab “cooks” leave approximately six pounds of hazardous toxic waste for each pound of methamphetamine produced. Meth manufacturing and its use also produces hazardous meth residue, often referred to as volatile organic compounds (VOC). VOCs bind to porous and non-porous surfaces and can result in dangerous secondary exposures. Homes, businesses and vehicles can be rendered uninhabitable by VOCs. VOCs may cause nose and throat irritation, headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion and breathing difficulties. Benzene, a potential meth chemical, is a VOC known to cause cancer. Meth residue is extremely toxic to children. Children living in meth-contaminated homes can encounter chronic health problems, according to the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Report. ABS provides a comprehensive spectrum of methamphetamine consulting and testing services. Our Decontamination Teams are trained and certified in meth level analysis, meth residue testing and decontamination services.

Tear Gas Cleanup
Tear gas may be deployed into a property by law enforcement while apprehending a suspect. Tear gas is a pulmonary, ocular and skin irritant that can cause serious health hazards, including death in rare instances. Tear gas is also one of the most difficult substances to cleanup. ABS employs tear gas residue recovery and decontamination technologies to efficiently and effectively remediate tear gas residue exposures in a property.

Unattended Death Cleanup
ABS professionals understand that the last thing a family member, employer, or coworker wants to deal with after an unattended death, also referred to as a late discovery or decomposition, is the cleanup. There are many hazards associated with unattended death cleanup. When a person dies, decomposition begins immediately, releasing potentially harmful microbial organisms (viruses & bacteria), spores and unpleasant organic and oily vapor into immediate and surrounding areas of a residence or business. Cross-contamination increases exponentially with the involvement of insect activity and their associated metamorphosis processes.
Many individuals, the public, law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire rescue, medical examiner personnel, crime scene investigators and other officials who come in contact with the deceased are still unclear about, or miscalculate infectious risks associated with dead bodies and decomposition. The result, necessary precautions to minimize exposure risks and prevent cross-contamination are not employed or employed improperly. Poorly trained or untrained biohazard companies are not exempt. Often not certified, uninsured or underinsured, these companies may fail to understand and/or identify biohazard exposure risks and use inappropriate cross-contamination, PPE, recovery and decontamination protocols, placing their employees, the client and community at risk.
ABS is certified, insured, bonded and licensed to conduct biohazard and HAZMAT operations in Florida. Our trained and Certified Biohazard Technicians will remediate environments in which an unattended death has occurred with dignity, respect and professionalism.
